An Excerpt from Everyday Genius
Every life is filled with opportunities to consume and produce, to build or destroy, to innovate or vegetate. Everything good in life has some generative component. We establish families to create and perpetuate life and filial happiness. We go to work to generate income in order to meet various needs. We plant, grow, and harvest food so we can eat. We build homes so we can have a place to live. We create to meet the necessities of life. We also create to make life better through the generation and enjoyment of things that transcend the basics of human survival. We could all live in simple boxes. Instead, we build our homes and apartments to suit; and then we decorate, adorn, and personalize them. We could simply eat our food straight out of the field or the ground, and often this is a great way to consume it. But we also slice it and dice it, apply heat and seasonings, and combine ingredients to make our sustenance more enjoyable. We could hum a simple tune, but instead, we write and perform symphonies.

In 2023, I started The Stretch Podcast, a part-time venture that I thought would scratch the growing itch in my brain but, as it always happens, scratching just made it worse. Enrolling in a Masters program in English Literature brought only partial relief. Eventually, the path to understanding and channeling that nagging impetus led me to one solution; I needed to write.
My first book, Everyday Genius: Principles of Creativity and Innovation for Life plunges into the history of humanity's greatest creators and examines their process in a quest to understand how anyone might apply common principles to become more creative. I hope that you will be as inspired by reading it as I have been in writing it.
